Short answer: On Monday, October 5, 2026, SNX will present its smart snacks and comfort food at the Food Safari organized by the Surplus healthcare organization at the De Zeven Schakels nursing home in Zevenbergen. The theme of the day: protein transition and sustainability in healthcare kitchens. Healthcare procurement professionals will sample SNX classics such as croquettes, burgers, and ground meat: familiar to residents, but with more protein and fiber, less fat and salt, and a Nutri-Score of A or B. For anyone looking for protein-rich foods for seniors that residents will actually eat, this is the place to get acquainted with them.

What is the Food Safari on October 5?

The Food Safari is a tasting and educational event hosted by the healthcare organization Surplus and organized by the Moerdijk region’s facilities department. The event will take place at De Zeven Schakels nursing home in Zevenbergen. Purchasing agents, chefs, and facilities managers from the healthcare sector will visit suppliers who will demonstrate how healthcare kitchens can be made tastier, healthier, and more sustainable.

The common thread is the protein transition: less animal protein, more plant-based protein, without residents having to sacrifice anything. This is exactly the arena SNX was created for. After Surplus posted a call for applications on LinkedIn, we applied, and we’re glad a spot has been made available for SNX.

Why a High-Protein Diet Is Such a Big Issue for Older Adults

In the healthcare sector, protein has become a key purchasing criterion. Dietitians and chefs in nursing homes are increasingly focusing on protein-rich diets for the elderly, because adequate protein intake is important for maintaining muscle mass and strength. At the same time, putting this into practice is challenging: a resident eats what they recognize. An unfamiliar protein shake is often left untouched, while a croquette sandwich or a meatball is devoured.

That’s where the opportunity lies. If the familiar classic itself contains more protein and fiber, the kitchen doesn’t need to introduce anything new. That’s the idea behind SNX’s BOB (Best of Both) line: well-known snacks and comfort food, reformulated to be the better choice.

What SNX is bringing to Zevenbergen

On the Food Safari, we demonstrate how our products work in institutional kitchens, from snacks to hot meals. All products are made from Dutch beef, supplemented with legumes and vegetables for a better nutritional profile. The meat is 100% beef; the beef products contain a maximum of 50% beef.

Hamburger bun as part of a hot meal

The SNX Burger It can be cooked on the grill, a baking sheet, or in a pan and has a Nutri-Score of A. Per 100 grams, the burger contains 16.1 grams of protein and 4.9 grams of fiber, with 157 kcal. As a complete hamburger sandwich, served with our high-protein bun, one serving provides 35 grams of protein. The burger and the ground meat are also gluten-free (less than 20 ppm), which makes it easier for the kitchen to accommodate dietary needs.

Ground meat and meatballs on a plate

SNX ground meat (Nutri-Score A) can be used anywhere that institutional kitchens currently use ground meat: in meatballs, pasta sauce, or casseroles. Simply prepare it in a pan or in the oven. Ready-to-eat meatballs are currently in development; we’ll be happy to share updates on the Food Safari.

Croquettes and bitterballen for a snack break

The croquette and the bitterbal are also on the menu. Both have a Nutri-Score of B and are a source of fiber, with 25% beef of pulled-meat quality. As a croquette sandwich, paired with the protein-rich bun, the combination even scores a Nutri-Score A. For the brasserie or grand café in a healthcare facility, this is a snack option that does pass the health test.

Why This Is of Interest to Healthcare Purchasers

Healthcare facilities look for three things at once: nutritional value, resident acceptance, and convenience in the kitchen. SNX excels in all three areas.

  • Nutritional Profile: the highest Nutri-Score in its category (burger A, ground beef A, croquette B, bitterbal B), more fiber and protein, and less fat, salt, and calories than comparable classics.
  • Acceptance: Diners can recognize what’s on their plates. No imitations, no explanations needed. Croquettes, burgers, and meatloaf taste just the way they’re supposed to.
  • Convenience: No new equipment or special procedures are required. Burgers and ground meat go on the grill, baking sheet, or into a pan; croquettes and bitterballen are incorporated into the existing process. Everything is frozen; store at -18 °C.
  • Responsible Procurement: fewer animal-based ingredients per serving than a product made entirely from beef, and therefore a smaller carbon footprint per serving. This contributes to the sustainability goals that are increasingly being included in requests for proposals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a high-protein diet for older adults?

A high-protein diet for older adults is one in which protein makes up a larger proportion than usual, making it easier for residents of care facilities to get enough protein. In practice, this works best when the protein is incorporated into familiar dishes, such as a croquette sandwich or a meatball, rather than in separate supplements.

How much protein is in SNX products?

The burger and the ground beef contain 16.1 grams of protein per 100 grams; the croquette contains 8.7 grams, and the bitterbal contains 8.4 grams. A complete SNX hamburger sandwich contains 35 grams of protein per serving, while a croquette sandwich contains 24.4 grams.

Are SNX products vegetarian?

No. SNX products contain Dutch beef, supplemented with plant-based proteins and fiber from vegetables and legumes, among other sources. The beef products contain a maximum of 50% beef; the croquettes and bitterballen contain 25%.

How do you prepare SNX products in a healthcare kitchen?

Burgers and ground meat can be cooked on the grill, on a baking sheet, in a pan, or in the oven. Croquettes and bitterballen go into the deep fryer frozen, just like the classic versions. No special equipment is required. Store at -18 °C; exact cooking times are listed in the product specifications for each item.
